Graveyard Brownies

Are you getting ready for Halloween? I have some amazing treats coming up on the blog over the next couple weeks to prepare you for the big night! But first, let’s get started with these delicious Halloween Graveyard Brownies!

Last week, I put this recipe together and it is absolutely perfect for a Halloween treat. The kids can even help you make it! These brownies were really the perfect batch. They came out so moist and chewy. Just the way I like them! I cut them into squares and frosted them with a milk chocolate whipped icing. I then crushed up some Oreos to simulate dirt and placed them on top.

Salted Caramel Pumpkin Pie Crescents

Thanksgiving has always meant so much to me. I have fond memories of our family being together around the table and sharing memories. I could listen to them laugh for days. It’s just pure happiness! I miss those days. They would be hectic, but we were together and that was the best feeling for me growing up.

Things have changed over the years. Everyone kind of does their own thing now and smaller groups of us get together to share the holiday. With everyone being in different cities and states, it definitely puts a strain on our big family gatherings.

Halloween Trick or Treat Printables

Every year on Halloween, we have a small block party and take to the neighborhood for our annual Trick or Treating. Since the whole family goes, we are never home to distribute any candy, but we always leave a big bowl and put the honor system in place. Last year, I made these adorable Halloween signs to place next to our candy cauldron and since Bunbun was new to Girl Scouts, I incorporated that as well.

Trick or Treat: How to make your own BOO Kit and #BOOItForward

Yes!!! It’s that time of year again. The weather is changing and the leaves are falling. Neighbors are taking out their Halloween decorations from jack-o-lanterns to skeletons and even spooky messages on signs from www.neonfilter.com. Everyone is getting out there and sprucing up the neighborhood in preparation of the big night.
As a child, my favorite holiday was Halloween. I was ‘almost’ a Halloween baby, so my Birthday and Halloween are within a few short days of each other. I absolutely love decorating and sharing in on the Halloween fun with the neighborhood children and of course my own.

When we purchased our first home back in 2012 the tradition of BOO’ing had just begun in the neighborhood. To join in the spooky spirit of giving, we made a BOO kit full of candy and goodies to bring to our neighbor’s house. We left it at the doorstep along with a card explaining what it meant to be Boo’d and an extra to encourage them to continue the cycle of “boo’ing.” They were then left guessing who left the tub of treats and something good to eat. While our identity remained a secret, it was up to them to pay it forward and create their own BOO kit for for an unsuspecting neighbor or friend.

Pumpkin Spice Whoopie Pies

Mistakes. We’re all human and make them, but sometimes, they really get the best of you and beat you down. Yesterday was one of those days for me. I just couldn’t get anything right! I’ve been working on a craft for the Blog and I attempted to dye something. I hung it out to dry and when I went to check on it an hour or so later, it was completely white again. The color just didn’t take so, I will have to try again another day.

Then, I decided to make my Pumpkin Spice Whoopie Pies. I grabbed my Wilton Harvest Whoopie Pie Pan and couldn’t wait to get started! The first batch rose too high, so I had to start all over. I tweaked some of the ingredients and all was well. I then began my cream cheese buttercream and it was too soft. I had just about had it! I was so frustrated with everything going wrong, that I decided to take a break and re-group. I really needed that, because when I tried the second time, I nailed it!

So, the moral of this story, is never give up. Sometimes, we just have bad moments or days and that’s totally okay. Take a break, brush it off and try again! Always.
